Here are a few tricks we compiled to guide those who are looking for extra spaces to store things but don’t want to break the bank. If you’re one of those people who might not want to get rid of everything or spend money for rent on storage containers, then this is for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Find the hidden spots<\/span><\/h3>\n

The first on the list is to look at ‘hidden’ spaces in your house that are currently empty. If you’re not sure what we are talking about, then underneath beds is the most obvious example. Possibly, your house may also have some room behind or under furniture as well, so be sure to check those out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another often missed opportunity is behind mirrors. Yes, there’s a lot of things you can do behind the mirrors in your house. This can go from installing cabinets with mirrored fronts in your bathroom to getting full-length free standing mirrors with storage spaces inside, which are relatively cheap and at the same time are a great storage to keep things like your fashion accessories and jewelry. Amazing, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

In the meantime, if you don\u2019t need immediate access to the things that you\u2019re storing, you can simply use some sort of shelving in your hallway cupboards that might be bad for the towels but fine for old letters or photos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do some quick renovations (from old to new)<\/span><\/h3>\n

If you have an older house, this one may be a not-so-hard fix for you. Older houses, particularly in older kitchens or old spaces, are just covered up or panelled over. Somehow, they’re still taking up just as much space without providing the functionality of a cupboard. If this is similar to your case, now is the time to reclaim that space. You can do DIY or hire a professional to do some quick renovations and make the old NEW again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Be sure to check out every corner. Often, laundries have spare panelling and cupboards that can also be converted to storage, as do flights of stairs. Sure, you might be worried about damp, dust or worse. What you can do then is to consider the size of your space and look into other storage options like plastic tubs that will help you maximise its use while avoiding the pitfalls.<\/span><\/p>\n

Consider the other kind of shedding<\/span><\/h3>\n

Does your property have a shed or garage? If yes, then take a look if that could be your another storage option. If it’s not yet full of junk, now is the time to muster up your courage and clear out actual trash, so you can give space for the things you want to keep.<\/span><\/p>\n

Start putting items in plastic garbage bags or in large plastic storage tubs to keep things safe from the elements for short to medium-term storage. How about shelving? This can be easily installed for storage or displaying decorations. It might not be a huge amount of space, but it might be enough to free up a shelf on a bookcase, or a hanging storage or corner shelving for bathrooms and kitchens. You can also add some wire stands for towels to keep the room looking open and help reclaim some linen cupboard space.<\/span><\/p>\n

DIY and be creative<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since not all of these options fit the needs of every household, what you can do is to DIY and get creative. If your home has built-in robes, consider getting door hangers for the inside so that you can sneak some things away from the cupboard without affecting anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n
